Our 2017 Summer Session kicked off this past Monday at the Jazz Gallery Center (926 E. Center St) to a packed house of new and returning youth. We spent our time learning how to connect gear, plan a set for different types of events and we practiced foundational DJ skills like scratching, mixing and juggling records. The Summer Session runs every Monday until our culminating final party on July 24th that you all are invited to!
We are also extremely proud to announce that the Scratch Sessions are expanding this Summer! In addition to Mondays, we will hold the “Scratch Sessions South” at the Walker’s Point Center For The Arts on Thursday evenings from 4-7pm! Lessons will run from June 22nd through July 20th, with a final party on Friday, July 21st.
All teens and levels of experience are welcome! We do want to especially encourage GIRLS to participate, as there’s a great need of more young, female (particularly Latina) DJs and mentors. Our very own DJ Loop, who grew up in the Latino community on the Southside of Milwaukee, has become a role model to other youth Latina and girls of color who aspires to be a professional DJ. It was her initiative and drive that created this and she will co-teach this class along side DJ Bizzon. Get all the details here!
