DJ Loop and DJ Bizzon will kick off the “Scratch Sessions South: Ladies First” every Thursday from October 19th to December 7th (4-7pm) at Walker’s Point Center for the Arts. We are reaching out to WOMEN of all ages, specifically hispanic women/girls, who never thought about being a DJ, or were interested, but thought they couldn’t do it because of a lack of representation and guidance.
There’s a great need for more young, women (particularly Latina) DJs and DJ Loop, who grew up in the Latino community on the Southside of Milwaukee, has become a role model to other youth Latina and girls of color who aspire to be a professional DJ. These DJ lessons are FREE and everyone is welcome, but fellas make sure you bring a woman if you attend.
Just like on Mondays, we will learn fundamentals of DJing, basic to advanced techniques, the history of turntablism, and the rise of digital DJing. We will also get hands-on with music selection, scratching, beat matching and more! Equipment will be provided by the instructors, and will include vinyl turntables and controllers, as well as digital software like Serato DJ and Traktor. If you have equipment, please feel free to bring it if convenient.
This series of The Scratch Sessions South at WPCA is a spinoff of the original Scratch Sessions started and run by DJ Bizzon, every Monday (4–8 pm) at The Jazz Gallery Center for the Arts in Riverwest.
